Week 8A

Holiday- No Class

Week 7- Outside of Class

Over the weekend I played with a few typefaces to add to my 404 error advertisement page. I decided to make my page more comical by saying Oh Smear in stead of Oh shit! and 404 such as the error but now i'm using it as the lipstick color and repeated the smug statement by saying 404 is not your color.

Week 7B

For the 404 advertisement assignment, we are required to have one scanned image, one captured image and one piece of graphic to be incorporated into our piece stating why you are on an 404 error and how you can go elsewhere by being redirected to the homepage of the original website or another search similar. Here are the scanned image and capture image that I have chosen for my 404 error for Maybelline makeup. Maybelline webpage is mostly black and seems high fashion even though the makeup is sold at non-high end stores. From the captured image I have cropped out my own lips and changed the color to become more dramatized and red like the original lips. Then in the scanned image I have warped, rotated, cropped, changed the image levels and added my lips to the scanned image

Week 7A

If you press any letter or symbols after a website address like www.apple.com/lkjih this will be a 404 error will pop up saying something along the lines of page not found. In class we looked up websites that had 404 errors without any type of design, typography, or illustration thats used in a creative way  to simply say page not found. One website I saw that had something but no connection to the actual product was Maybelline. My idea is to have a women's face with messed up makeup with type that means she screwed up like oh snap. Below are some images that I have scanned from magazines and some captured images.

Week 6- Outside of Class

It never hurts to review more videos and gain knowledge about programs. Some of the videos I watch were cropping, layers, selecting and layer mask tool. Cropping allows to you to keep a dimension to a picture and crop or customize it own transform. Layers allows you to work on one layer and not harm other ones if they were locked. Layers is probably the most complex tool but also the most useful.

Week 6B

Photoshop is a software created to editing images. For example, if you need to change the color. Obviously, Photoshop is used for lot of other tasks but editing images is just one of them. In class we scanned a photo from a magazine onto the computer at 200 dpi, then saved in as a .tiff file that can later be placed into Photoshop. After opening the file, you must change the background layer to a regular layer or you will have few restrictions on that layer. After creating the document, I added another photo that was an outline of myself that was rasterized in photoshop in order to edit only myself out of the photo so I could be placed into another document. Then after editing the quality and color of myself I exported it as a .pdf in order to print. And my document was moved to InDesign in order to create text or copy for the advertisement.

Week 6A

All designers must be knowledgeable in design softwares; especially Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign. In class our goal was to make a copy of a document in Indesign by retyping the information and using our own photos that we scanned from a magazine. The document was about image type and the description of each type of image type such as line art, grayscale, duotone, RGB, CMYK, and vector art. The examples of each type was shown by an image that was created in photoshop and the photo was adjusted to the image type. (For example: RGB- red, green, and blue so there were 3 images one red, one green, etc.) All of the images are pixel based expect for the vector art which is completed in Illustrator which is a vector based software.
So far in Digital Theory and Skills we have learned about Illustrator and now for the next few week we will be learning about Photoshop. Lynda.com does a good job of defining Photoshop through their tutorials. Photoshop is used by photographers, designers, videographers and 3D artists who enhance photos or use to create commercial pieces and videos or animations. Photoshop in a few words allows the artists to crop/rotate images, align photos, enhance image quality, create text, special effects, create videos/animations, make 3D objects and enhance effects on film. Those are just a few examples of what Photoshop allows you to do as an artist. Some tools that help designers when looking at images are the zoom tool by pressing z and the hand tool (h) that allows you to grab the document and move it around to the area you which to see.
